Greetings,

In 2008, my father, Arthur LeBlanc, was diagnosed with cancer, an event which changed the lives
of everyone in my family. Our battle with the disease was a relatively short one compared to some that I’ve talked to, a mere eight or so months, but they were still some of the most difficult moments of my life. After he passed, I tried to find solace in the activity that has shaped much of my adult life: the sport of archery.

While practicing outdoors one afternoon, I was reminded of how my father enjoyed watching the archery competition at the Bay State Games each year. The previous day I had agreed to sponsor a friend participating in a three day Walk for Cancer, and from those two thoughts came the idea for this event.

The Take a Shot at Cancer tournament is the first of its kind: an event to bring together archers from around the New England region in the spirit of friendly competition and giving. It is designed to follow a festival-like format, providing activities for athletes and spectators alike, while raising
money for cancer research. A full 100% of the proceeds from this event will be given to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to further cancer research and to provide support for the families of those struggling with cancer. Underwriting for this event has been graciously provided by many family members, friends, and business sponsors.

If you are considering competing in this event, I encourage you to use the event pledge form and ask at least 10 friends or family to pledge you $20 each. If all archers can do this, we can easily raise over twenty thousand dollars for Dana-Farber!

If you are a business owner and can possibly donate any goods or services, either to help in the running of the event or as a possible prize for our silent auction, we welcome your sponsorship. And if you are simply interested in donating to the cause, we would be honored to have your help.

Thank you for your assistance in making this event a success. I hope that Take a Shot at Cancer
can become an annual occurrence, growing in size and participation every year, until we’ve made cancer a thing of the past.

Warm regards,

Jeff LeBlanc
